Course Description: This American Sign Language (ASL) course for grades 6-12 is designed to meet the requirements for foreign language credit while providing students with a meaningful and engaging introduction to ASL. Students will develop foundational skills in vocabulary, finger spelling, grammar, facial expressions, and conversational fluency. In addition, the course will explore Deaf culture, history, and the role of ASL within the Deaf community, helping students grow in cultural understanding and empathy.

Through interactive lessons, visual storytelling. structured practice, and real-world application, students will gain confidence in using ASL as a full and expressive language. Emphasis will be placed both receptive and expressive skills, with opportunities for regular review and assessment. This course is taught in a Christ-centered environment that encourages respect for diversity, the joy of learning, and the value of communication in all its forms.
